Award winning composer and arranger Jared Cathey is a creative and versatile multi-woodwindist and educator who has been primarily based in Oklahoma City and Tulsa metropolitan areas and throughout the state of Colorado. He has performed and/or recorded with notable musicians such as Carmen Bradford, Melissa Aldana, Dan Miller, Quincy Davis, Veronica Swift, the Ari Hoenig and Ben Markley Big Band, Ronald Bruner Jr., John Fedchock, Gil Goldstein, Bill Watrous, John Pizzarelli, the Zaremba Jazz Fellowship, the Socrates Garcia Latin Jazz Orchestra, the H2 Big Band, the Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra, the Colorado Jazz Orchestra, the Edmond Jazz Orchestra, the Oklahoma City Jazz Orchestra, and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, and in 2014, Jared had the greatest privilege of subbing on tenor sax in the legendary Count Basie Orchestra.

 

In addition to his performance experience, Jared is currently acquiring a DA in Jazz Studies and Composition while holding the position of Instructor of Jazz Studies and Music Technology at the University of Northern Colorado. Prior to moving to Colorado, Jared was Instructor of Saxophone and Jazz Studies at Oklahoma City University and Instructor of Saxophone and Music Technology at the University of Central Oklahoma. He earned both an MM in Jazz Studies: Music Production and a BM in Saxophone Performance from the University of Central Oklahoma.

 

Jared will be releasing a new album in the very near future comprised of all original music performed with dear friends from Oklahoma nearly ten years ago. Abandoned Ground can hopefully bring joy to those who listen.
